STEP 1. Load Windows 7 DVD and restart

Installing Windows from the Hard Drive is quite faster than installing from DVD/CD. This article has been written on the assumption that the new Windows 7 is going to be installed and replace the current OS.

Follow the given instructions to perform this task:

STEP 1. On your current Operating System install a virtual DVD/CD drive first. Magic Disc virtual DVD/CD ROM can do this and is free.

STEP 2. Now mount the ISO image of Windows 7.

STEP 3. Then copy all the files from this Virtual drive you mounted now to a drive in which you don’t want to install Windows. For instance, if you want to install Windows on C drive copy them to E:\Windows7 or any other.

STEP 4. Next, copy the bootfolders and bootmgr seen inside the copied folder (here E:\windows7) to your main booting drive probably  C:\.

STEP 5.  Copy E:\Windows7\boot\boot.sdi and bootsect.exe from E:\Windows7\boot\ folder to C:\boot folder and C:\ drive respectively.

STEP 6.  The boot folder is hidden by default tick the option to show hidden files and folder and also show protected system files from Folder Options.

STEP 7. Now under C:\ root folder create a new folder named sources.

STEP 8. Copy the boot.wim file from E:\Windows7\sources to the sources folder created in the above step (7).

STEP 9. Now right click the Command Prompt in the start menu and select Run as Administrator.

STEP 10. Now change the name of the boot system partition to any name you prefer (in command prompt use label command). for instance, type C:\ label mycdrive. Remember the name you have given.

STEP 11. Now reboot the System.

STEP 12. After that Windows will automatically run the setup process. On continuing with the installation steps when you see the option to Install Windows do not click it instead click the option to Repair my Computer.

STEP 13. Now in the WinRE System Recovery Options window open the Command Prompt.

STEP 14. Now type the following command format c: /q .

STEP 15. /q switch is used to do a quick format option it is optional.

STEP 16. If you want to convert the drive to NTFS system type the command as c: /q /fs:ntfs.

STEP 17. Just before the formatting begins, you may be prompted to enter the name of the partition as mycdrive enter it accordingly.

STEP 18. After the formatting completes Start the Windows setup from the copied folder  for example, E:\Windows7\sources\setup.exe.

STEP 19. Now, follow  the instructions as usual.

Just like another operating system Windows 7 also has some kind of hardware requirements. Make sure your computer is ready to install Windows 7.

Perform Windows 7 Clean Installation:

Clean installation is a process of putting an entirely new installation of Windows. In order to perform a clean installation of Windows 7, you should format and completely erase data on your hard drive. During a clean installation, the operating system files are installed in a new folder, and you must reinstall all of your applications and reconfigure user preferences, such as desktop and application settings.

On the other side when you upgrade, existing user settings are retained, as are installed applications and application settings. An upgrade is a new version of or addition to a hardware or, more often, software product that is already installed or in use.
Microsoft recommends you to upgrade your existing operating system to Windows 7, but if you are running Windows XP then you cannot go for upgrade option. In that scenario you need to perform a clean installation of Windows 7. But don’t forget to take a backup of your data before you initiate a clean installation.

Now without wasting your precious time let’s install Windows 7 on your PC.

STEP 1. Insert the Windows 7 disc into DVD drive, then set the BIOS to boot from it.

STEP 2. Press any key on your keyboard to boot from CD or DVD.

STEP 3. Next you should see the first Windows 7 setup screen prompting you to enter your region information.

STEP 4. Set your location and language preferences then click Next.

STEP 5. Next accept the EULA (End User License Agreement) in order to proceed.

STEP 6. The two options are Upgrade and Custom. As this is a new install, the only one we can choose is Custom.

STEP 8. During setup system may reboot a couple of times, don’t “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD” when this happens as it will slow everything down. Let Windows reboot as normal.

STEP 9. Once the file install is complete you will be presented with another black screen with the message, “Setup is preparing your computer for first use.

STEP 10. The next dialog box is where you enter your user and computer name. Enter all your details and click Next. Password time, enter one if you want, or leave it blank, the choice is yours.

STEP 11. The next screen is for the product key. Here you have two options. You can enter the key here and allow Windows to automatically activate once online, or ignore it and enter it later.

STEP 12. The next screen is the security screen where you choose whether or not to allow Windows to automatically update itself. We suggest setting this to Use recommended settings for now.
This will allow the operating system to download updates and fixes as they become available.

STEP 13. Next enter details for time zone, then network settings and etc.

Note: Once you’re through with the installation process, you need to activate Windows 7. Activation is a process that verifies, your copy of Windows is not a pirated one. With a genuine copy of Windows 7, you are eligible to receive all available updates and product support from Microsoft.

If you don’t have a CD or DVD drive on your netbook then you may not be able to install Windows 7. Also, the read speeds are faster from USB drive than your CD-ROM, which actually decreases the install time for Windows 7.

Follow the given steps:

Step 1. Formatting the USB Flash Drive is an important factor that more or less, lays the foundation of the whole installation process. It enables a computer to read a bootable drive. So plug your flash drive into a workstation.

Step 2. Open up Command Prompt which is usually located in Program Files and type a number of commands. Usually the operation starts by entailing the following commands in the order given; Diskpart-List Disk-Clean-Create Partition Primary-Primary 1-Active-Format FS-Assign-Exit.

Step 3. After the stage is clear and with all the formatting and compatibility options taken care of, now the part for installing the Windows 7 CD comes into play. Quickly insert the CD and browse or simply open your Windows 7 ISO and browse the folders that are located within it.

In the earlier versions of Windows, it was not possible to transfer data of multiple users.

Solution:

Windows Easy Transfer is a tool for transferring files and settings from one system to another running Windows. Not only this, you can transfer data from one user’s profile, or from multiple user accounts. It helps you to decide what to move to your new computer, which transfer method to use, and finally perform the transfer. When you are done with transferring, it displays a reports of the transferred content. It also offers a list of programs that you might want to install on new computer.

Note: You cannot use this tool to move program files. It can transfer only data and program settings. You must then install your software programs on the new computer. Its also not capable to transfer any system files such as fonts and drivers. You can transfer files and settings using a network, USB drive or the Easy Transfer cable. Upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7

You cannot Do Windows 7 Upgrade From Windows XP. However, you can use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer files and settings from Windows XP to Windows 7 on the same computer. For this, you need to copy files to a removable media, such as an external hard drive or USB flash drive, or to a network share. Next, you will install Windows 7 and then migrate your files back from the removable media onto your computer. When you are done, you must re-install your software programs again.

1. Insert the Windows 7 DVD while running Windows XP.

2. 2. Open Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start menu, and then clicking Explore. Start menu, and then clicking Explore.

9. Browse to the external location on the network or to the removable media where you want to save your Easy Transfer file, and then click Save.

10. Click Next. Windows Easy Transfer displays the file name and location of the Easy Transfer file you just created.

1. If you saved your files and settings in an Easy Transfer file on a removable media such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive rather than on a network share, insert the removable media into the computer.
