You must have a processor with minimum one gigahertz frequency; it is better to have a faster processor. Depending upon the Windows 7 version, i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit, your processor must be capable of supporting it. A minimum of one gigabyte of RAM (Random Access Memory) for the 32-bit version and at least two gigabytes of RAM for the 64-bit version of Windows 7 is required. A 16 gigabyte hard disk space for the 32-bit version of Windows 7 and a 20 gigabyte hard disk space for the 64-bit version is also required. You must have a DirectX9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 at least.
One must note that machines just fulfilling Windows 7 minimum requirements may not be able to support all the features included in Windows 7. These systems might also face difficulty in running multiple programs simultaneously or operate at a slow speed.
How to check your system’s configuration
You can follow certain steps while upgrading your OS to Windows 7. Manually check your devices and make sure that they are compatible with Windows 7. You can refer to the manual provided by the device manufacturer. After you are satisfied with the compatibility of your hardware, you should install Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor on your system.

Connect all the hardware that you intend to use with your system loaded with Windows 7 and switch them on. Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. The program will scan your PC and all the connected hardware. After the scan, you will be notified about any technical or compatibility issues with your hardware. Remove or replace such hardware and run the Upgrade Advisor again to know that your machine is fulfilling the minimum requirements for Windows 7. Also, make sure that you have the appropriate Windows 7 device drivers with you, otherwise your hardware might not work properly. You should also be aware of the unwanted consequences of upgrading to Windows 7. Make sure that you have a backup of your important files and folders.
