Speed up the Windows 7 boot process with Dual Core or Quad Core Processors.
Problem:
Windows takes a lot of time while booting.
Solution:
Follow these easy steps to make your PC boot faster:
STEP 1: Click Start Menu and select the ‘Run’ command.
STEP 2: Type ‘Msconfig’ and press OK to run the System Configuration Utility.
STEP 3: Open up the ‘Boot”’ tab and press the ‘Advanced options’ button.
STEP 4: Under Number of Processors select 2 for a dual core or 4 if you have a quad core processor.
STEP 5: Click ‘OK’ button and then before you close the System Configuration Utility, make sure the check box besides ‘Make all boot settings permanent’ is checked.
STEP 6: Now click OK, reboot your system to bring these changes into effect.
Following the above mentioned tips will make your windows 7 system booting faster.
Note: Your boot process will now take less time at start up. This tip will also work in Windows Vista.

This tweak made very little difference to my system. I didn’t make the setting permanent as this will not allow you to undo the change if it doesn’t work or causes problems.
Laptop: HP HDX16-1310 with Intel Core2 Duo P7350 and 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise
Boot time without tweak: 0:35.296
Continue login using fingerprint: 1:34.954
Boot time with tweak: 0:35.204
Continue login using fingerprint: 1:34.740
For less than a second difference that could be put down to my reaction times doesn’t seem to be worth it. (I configure many PCs and this would add extra work that isn’t necessary for my test system at least.) Maybe different setups will produce better results.
