Windows 7 Registry Backup Restore

Registry is the heart and soul of any operating system. In Windows 7, registry consists the configuration data that makes the operating system work. Or, in short we can say Windows 7 stores its configuration information in a database called the registry. The Windows 7 registry editor that came with Windows is regedit.exe. The registry contains profiles for each user of the machine and information about system hardware devices, installed programs, and property settings.
Registry editors allow you to examine and modify the registry. However, you should not need to do so. Instead, allow Windows programs to modify the system registry as needed.
The registry is made up of the following given components, which you can see when the registry loads.
- Subkeys
- Keys
- Values
In order to access registry in Windows 7, press the start button, type regedit and hit enter.
Follow the given instructions to create a backup of entire registry:
STEP 1. Close all running application or windows.
STEP 2. Press the Start button from the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
STEP 3. Next, In the search box type in regedit then hit Enter.
STEP 4. The Registry Editor window will present. You can now export the Windows Registry settings.
STEP 5. Now, Click File from the menu that appears and click Export.
STEP 6. Select the location where you want to save Registry backup and press Save.
STEP 7. Quit the Registry Editor window when you’re done.
Follow the given instructions to restore registry:
STEP 1: When you wish to restore it, locate the registry backup file, double-click on it.
STEP 2: Click Yes.
Note: We strongly recommended that you do not modify registry settings yourself. Incorrect changes in registry may destroy or damage your computer. At the very least, you should back up any valued data on the computer before making changes to the registry.
