Compression is feature that allows you to compress files, folders, and programs and decrease their size and reduce the amount of space they take on hard drives. Drive compression reduces the amount of space used by all of the files and folders stored on that drive. Microsoft Windows supports two types of compression technology: NTFS compression and compression using the Compressed (zipped) Folders feature.
Advantages of Compression

Compressed data takes up less storage space.

Apart of compressing files you can create a compressed folder and store various files inside it.

You can copy or move a compressed data or compressed folder to another drive or computer quicker than conventional uncompressed files or folders.

You can access compressed files and folders in the same way as you do with uncompressed files and folders.

Files and folders are easier to share.
- You can compress all types of data like picture files, video files, music files and document files etc.
Follow the given instruction to create a blank compressed folder:
STEP 1. Open the Documents Library.
STEP 2. Right click on a blank area.
STEP 3. A pop-up menu appears. Select New.
STEP 4. In the menu, click Compressed (zipped) folder.
STEP 5. A Blank Zipped folder appears in the Documents Library. Type a name for this folder.
Note: Once you created a compressed folder you can copy or move files into it. When you do this it will be compressed automatically.
Follow the given instruction to compress a file:
STEP 1. Open the folder that contains files.
STEP 2. Choose the file you want to compress.
STEP 3. Right click on the selected file.
STEP 4. In the side menu, select Compressed (zipped) folder. The newly created compressed folder takes the name of the file you selected for compression.
Follow the given instruction to compress a folder:
STEP 1. Open the Document Library.
STEP 2. Select the folder that you wish to compress.
STEP 3. Right click on the selected folder.
STEP 4. In the pop-up menu, select Send to.
STEP 5. In the side menu, select Compressed (zipped) folder.
STEP 6. The compressed folder appears in the Document Library with the original folder.
