After being completely annoyed with Windows Vista, you will be shocked with the improved features in Microsoft’s newest operating system, Windows 7.
However, if you are planning to buy a new laptop then your waiting may get paid off. Consumer Reports say that January is a good time to buy new Windows computers. And it is the perfect time to buy computers or laptops with Windows 7 operating system.
Consumer Reports tests show that Windows 7 starts up and shuts down faster than its predecessors, but the step up is minor. And general performance of Windows 7 is also faster than Vista and XP, but only slightly.
The research firm has tested 20 laptops in recent times, evaluating features like ergonomics, battery life, and performance.
There are a number of reasonably priced laptops out there, but there is a caution by testers that you must beware of rock-bottom prices. Consumer Reports says that some computer makers use single-core processors instead of dual-core to save money and sell them to those people who want affordable computers. If you buy such computers then your computer might work a little bit slower than other computers.
For example, a 15-inch Acer Aspire, model AS 5532, costs for $330. Consumer Reports says that it is a good laptop for very basic needs like e-mail and word processing, but not for creating videos or playing high resolution games.
The survey says that there a lot of laptops with dual-core processors that offered good speed and performance for $600, or even less.
The latest and expensive laptop which is good in speed is the Toshiba Satellite L505. It costs for $530. It has facial recognition software, which allows you to log in into Windows by scanning your face.
Consumer Reports says that there is no need to upgrade if you are happy with your current computer and operating system. But if you are an Vista user then it is recommended that you upgrade to Windows 7. Most of the computer manufacturers are offering free upgrades to those people who have bought computers with Vista operating system from late June 2009 through January 2010.
