Dual Boot with Windows 7Create a multiboot system by installing Windows 7 on a separate hard disk partition.

Problem

If you are planning to go for dualboot or multiboot installation with Windows 7 and another version of Windows, then you must install the previous Windows version first then install Windows 7. If you don’t follow this your system can be unbootable.

How to create dual boot system?

Step 1: Partition Your Hard Drive- Before you install Windows 7, the first thing you need to do is create a new partition on your hard drive to hold the new installation of Windows.

Step 2: Install Windows 7- insert your Windows 7 disc and reboot your computer (you’ll need to have enabled booting from your DVD drive in your system BIOS, but most PCs will have this enabled by default).

Step 3: Start the setup Wizard

Step 4: Providing details- enter the require details as per on screen instructions and install Windows 7 successfully.

Important:

  • You may face problem while installing Windows 7 with more than 2 GB RAM. In that case first install the Windows with 2 GB RAM and add rest of the RAM after complete installation. It is possible that your motherboard may not support this much RAM than you need to update your motherboard.
  • You must take a backup of all important data and device drivers before a clean install.
  • Before a clean install, download and save all of your device drivers to DVD, or some other media, to have them handy to make setting Windows 7 up easier later. Sometimes using the Vista drivers in Windows 7, you will need to use Compatibility Mode on the driver for it to install.

Windows 7 Minimum Hardware Requirements:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
  • 1 GB RAM for 32-bit Windows 7 OR 2 GB RAM for 64-bit Windows 7
  • 16 GB available disk space 32-bit Windows 7 OR 20 GB for 64-bit Windows 7
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (in order to enable Aero theme)
  • DVD-R/W Drive
  • Internet or phone access to activate Windows 7.
