If you do a lot of work on your laptop or when you are away from your home, the battery life is always the cause of the worry to the user. He always remains anxious about how much battery is left and how much work can be done on the laptop. Windows 7 provides the solution to it with Battcursor and Hibernate feature.

Hibernate feature is primarily designed for laptop users who always remain worried about the battery life. This is a power saving feature that extends the life of the battery. It turns off the computer while putting your documents and programs on hard disk while using  least amount of power.

How to enable hibernation in Windows 7:

STEP 1 : Open Command Prompt with Administrator rights. Type CMD in Start menu and then hit Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open the Command Prompt with Admin rights.

STEP 2 : Hit enter after typing the below command:

powercfg /hibernate on Hibernate command

STEP 3 : Type exit and hit enter to close the Command Prompt.

STEP 4 : If the Hibernate option does not appear in Start menu then do the following tasks:

1) Type Power Options in Start menu and hit enter.

2) Open the link labeled “Change when the computer sleeps”, in the left pane and then open the link “Change advanced power settings”.

3) Expand the Sleep tree and turn off Hybrid Sleep, under the Advanced Sleep options

4) To see the new Hibernate entry, go back to the start menu.

Battcursor in Windows 7 keeps the track of the battery life and keep the user aware of the battery status. Its power saving functions are quite impressive. Although it is a little program but offers several useful features.

The tool includes indicator to the cursor, which itself turns into a floating battery meter and whenever the battery power is low, the percentage and the visual indicator will be displayed.
