Join A Domain With Windows 7

A domain is a group of computers that are part of a network and share a common directory database. A domain is administered as a unit with common rules and procedures. Each domain has a unique name. A domain is manage by a Domain Controller, a computer running Active Directory that manages user access to a network, which includes logging on, authentication, and access to the directory and shared resources.
Steps to connect your Windows 7 computer to a domain.
- Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
- Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, click Change settings. Administrator permission required, if you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- Click the Computer Name tab, and then click Change. Alternatively, click Network ID to use the Join a Domain or Workgroup wizard to automate the process of connecting to a domain and creating a domain user account on your computer.
- Under Member of, click Domain.
- Type the name of the domain that you want to join, and then click OK. You will be asked to type your user name and password for the domain. Once you are successfully joined to the domain, you will be prompted to restart your computer. You must restart your computer before the changes take effect.
If you are working in domain and you need to know which domain a computer belongs to so that you can access other computers and resources on the network. Follow this:
- Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
- If your computer is connected to a domain, under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, you’ll see the name of the domain your computer belongs.
