Management features in Windows 7Windows 7, Microsoft’s newest operating system, is offering several enhanced management features like DirectAccess, BranchCache etc. that will help users in many ways.

This article talks about the attributes of these features mainly highlighting their usability from the user’s perspective.

Unlike most traditional VPN (virtual private network) connections – which must be initiated and terminated by user action – DirectAccess is automatically made by the user’s computer on their behalf.

It provides seamless intranet connectivity to its client computers when they are connected to the Internet. It requires domain-joined machines and at least Windows Server 2008 domain controllers and a PKI to issue authentication certificates. It uses IPv6 to reach intranet resources. Another feature is in place imaging that allows Windows 7 users to apply sort of an in-place image, in order to keep all user files intact. The Next one is BranchCache, a branch-office cache system for files stored on central file servers.

A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network that is used to separate the traffic of different user communities over an underlying network with strong security features, or to provide access to a network via customized or private routing mechanisms. It is implemented in an additional software layer on top of an existing larger network for the purpose of creating a private scope of computer communications.

Above used PKI, is Public Key Infrastructure, it is the mechanism that supports public key cryptography for the organization, people and machinery. It is present to provide some degree of confidence to those people who have never exchanged keys. It is like other encryption methods, and is designed to allow two people to communicate privately. It can be used for Encryption and/or sender authentication of e-mail messages, Encryption and/or authentication of documents, Authentication of users to applications, Mobile signature and so on.

Problem recorder is another feature of Windows 7. It is included to record the problems experienced by the users. Users experiencing problems can fire up the recorder, and should create a log, that includes screenshots of each step, and highlighted buttons to perform the necessary steps to demonstrate the problem. The next is, AppLocker, a set of Group Policy settings, built on the ability to restrict the application’s depends on version number or publisher, and also to restrict which applications can run on a corporate network. Microsoft has released PowerShell 2.0 with Windows 7, its features are it includes transaction cmdlets for starting, committing, and rolling back a PSTransaction as well as features to manage and direct the transaction to the participating cmdlet and provider operations. The PowerShell Registry provider supports transactions and it includes a GUI-based PowerShell host that provides integrated debugger, syntax highlighting, tab completion and many more.

In a nutshell users will get benefited from the new and exciting features of management in Windows 7.
