Like any other version of MS Windows operating system, Windows 7 also has a Windows Registry as its hierarchical database to store configuration settings and options.

You can take a backup of the entire registry.

Here are the instructions on performing backup in Windows 7:

STEP 1. Click Start type systempropertiesprotection in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.

STEP 2. Wait for Windows to search for available disks and most recent restore points. In the System Properties dialog box, on the System Protection tab, click Create.
STEP 3. Type a name for the restore point and then click Create.
STEP 4. Once the restore point has been created successfully, click on OK twice.
Note: If System Restore is disabled, click to select the local disk, click Apply and then click Create.

You can restore the entire registry. Here are the instructions on performing restore in Windows 7:

STEP 1. Click Start, type systempropertiesprotection in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

STEP 2. In the System Properties dialog box, on the System Protection tab, click System Restore.

STEP 3. In the System Restore dialog box select Choose a different restore point, and then click on Next.

STEP 4. Choose the restore point that you want to use, and then click on Next.

STEP 5. Recheck your restore point, and then click Finish System restore – this restores the selected Windows 7 configuration and then reboots the computer.

STEP 6. Log on to the Windows. When the System Restore confirmation page appears, click on OK.
